Stuart & Stuart Penicuik Cricket Club 1st XI v Glenrothes on Sat 11 May 2013 at 12 noon
Stuart & Stuart Penicuik Cricket Club Lost By 7 runs
Match report
Penicuik entertained Glenrothes on Saturday in their CSL league opener. The weather for a long while looked to scupper both enthusiastic sides, but thankfully the skies finally cleared and play got underway at 2.30pm in a 35 over a side match.
Glenrothes batted first and the opening partnership was solid for 40 runs before Crawford got the breakthrough of the Glens skipper Hopcroft. Glenrothes batted sensibly around their overseas amateur Greaves and reached 169 for six in the allotted 35 overs. A competitive score James Scott, Cammy Crawford (1) and Calum Steel (3) impressed for the home side in the bowling department.
The Penicuik innings lost Foulds early with the score on 20, leaving Potts and Steel to build a very useful partnership that had Penicuik well on track. Potts in particular really had Penicuik firing, however when he was dismissed for a very well made 53 it was left to the Kris (16), Calum Steel (24) and Greeno (19) to carry on the fight.
The game then got very tight with overs going first to the bowlers and then in favour of the batters, all which boiled down to Penicuik needing 21 off 18 balls. Unfortunately for Penicuik it was Glenrothes who handled the pressure better and Penicuik fell 7 runs short.
A highly entertaining game played in good spirit; Penicuik can take some consolation in picking up 2 losing bonus points but were disappointed to lose from a winning position. They must try to bounce back midweek when they face Edinburgh CC in the 20/20, match starting 6:30pm @ Kirkhill.
