Welcome to the Penicuik Cricket Club website

Penicuik Cricket Club was established in 1844, making it one of the oldest cricket clubs in Scotland. Penicuik Cricket Club moved to its present home at Kirkhill in 1875 and is the only cricket club in Midlothian. We have 3 senior teams and 5 junior teams, all of whom play competitive cricket regularly during the season.

Senior Teams

Our 1st XI plays in the Cricket Scotland Eastern First Division (CSL) and caters for the more advanced players. The Eastern First Division is the 2nd tier of Scottish Cricket and our participation in it reflects the high level which we have attained in recent seasons.

Our 2nd XI competes in the East of Scotland League Division 6 (ESCA) and has a combination of older experienced players and promising younger players who aspire to reach our 1st XI.

We also have a Sunday XI, which participates in the Border Reserve league. This team focuses on cricket development with a blend of youth and experience and is a perfect environment for those fairly new to the game to learn and enjoy the game in a supportive environment.

Junior Teams

Penicuik Cricket Club has a strong history for developing young cricketers that have gone on to play at regional and national levels in their age groups. This season we are running teams at under 10's, 11's, 13's, 15's & 18's level, who will play competitive cricket on a regular basis.  The Under 11's, 13's and 15's play in the Lothian Junior Cricket League on a Friday, Monday and Wednesday respectively.  The Under 18's have been entered in the Scottish Cup, as have the Under 13's and 15's.  The youngest age group, Under 10's, play in kwik cricket festivals across the Lothians on a Sunday morning.

All junior players receive weekly coaching from a qualified experienced coach. We invest a lot of time into our junior players, with the aim being to see them progress into our senior teams and having a long-term association with the club.  All adults involved in coaching and managing the junior players undertake appropriate disclosure checks.

Awards For All

The Club are delighted to report that following a grant application in July 2012, we have received £5,600 from Awards for All to purchase some new equipment for the club.

Awards for All is the national lottery’s small grants programme. It is designed to give money to local non-profit making organisations to help them purchase new equipment and services.

We intend to purchase a range of new equipment, including 2 bowling machines, a catching rebound net, a mobile net and various other training aids.  This new equipment will be used in training sessions to further develop our players at all levels from the junior’s right through to our 1st XI.

We believe that this is an exciting new development for the club and will help raise the level of play for all those who use the equipment. We are very thankful to Awards for All for supporting us in this venture and the players, staff and members of the club are extremely grateful for their financial contribution.  It is our hope that we can nurture this important partnership for use on future projects.
